It's a good thing Chima Anya got this out before the end of Summer because this is a MUST have for sittin' out on the stoop, cruisin' in your car, or even in the club. I say it EVERY time but British hip-hop has taken a long time to come into it's own but it's people like Chima Anya that are pushing things forward... check it out...
"New Day" is the first single from the album of the same name... make sure you cop that! Be back soon!

GTA's Chima Anya presents new track from his upcoming mixtape!

Chima Anya is the fucking shit! Why?
Don't ask stupid questions! Did you not hear that last solo track we posted? The one Hudson Mohawke did? BECAUSE THAT TRACK WAS LIKE A BLAZING FIRESTORM... blew away everything in it's path...
So prepared to have the artists on your iTunes get envious when you add this joint...
This time of year most of us have a heightened sense of awareness with regards to time and deadlines we set ourselves to achieve what we want in life. This offering from london based oxford derived lyricist Chima Anya produced by DIZZ1 serves as a chilling reminder to all of us to get on that grind. A striking blend of grime's reckless frenzied mental state and Detroit's Dilla esque monstrous swagger, this track is one of many gems on Chima's upcoming mixtape.

See! I told you that was hot as hell! Be back soon with more goodies...

GTA present their new single "Breakthrough"

I never get tired of GTA... "Breakthrough" is positive hip hop that just makes you want you keep starting the song over when it ends. I really really like this song... and while the production is fresh (nice new spin on this sample) it's the verses that keep it from just being a fresh sounding instrumental! Trying to tell you how good this song is almost impossible because it's the type of song that will inspire feelings that are hard to describe to others. It's just damn good!
Here's a little press...
GTA (Junior Doctor Chima Anya and Ineffable) are back with their new single taken from their imminent full length LP "The Way" out on Phoenix down.
"Breakthrough" - the third single from the highly anticipated debut album has already stood the test of time, having already established classic status as a local anthem in and around Oxford circa 2005. The 08' version has some new delightfully endearing shuffling drums while retaining the triumphant horns and catchy chorus that made the original shine.
Sampling The O’Jay’s “Darlin, Darlin, Baby” GTA’s rendition is strong enough to stand side by side with the samples last notable outing on Big Pun’s "I'm not a playa" – and that’s really saying something.

I'm not sure if I was supposed to post the track or not so I may not keep it up long. You need to cop this album obviously!
Here's the video...
Speaking of positivity hopefully Obama wins tonight and we can all stop being so gloomy! Peace!

GTA from Oxford bring you VIP Brithop...

Awww man! I fucking love this song! As I say every time I post GTA (from Oxford) I mention that outside of grime, UK hiphop can be pretty stale... pretending to be fucking Jay Z doesn't work across the Atlantic! I mean, we all have poverty, struggle, strife, racism... that shit is everywhere... as well as baller ass whips, chains, rings, and bitches. UK hiphop falls apart in trying to be an exact counterpart to the US... it means EVERYBODY comes off like Fabolous or Canibus... no, not the good songs, the shitty ones. The problem with most of Brithop is that they are trying to use someone ELSE'S VOICE! I mean, the UK has so much amazing shit and such a progressive musical pedigree (especially producers)... why would you turn your back on that and try to be someone else?
GTA don't fall into any of those traps and therefore they get consistent support from me. This track is just Chima Anya from GTA (his partner Ineffable doesn't make it out for this one)... it's sick ass blippy hiphop, not entirely unlike Flying Lotus and Timbaland locked in a room. The track was done by Hudson Mohawke (who I need to look into after this track), straight outta Scotland... someone should do a track like that to the tune of 'Straight Outta Compton'... pardon, I'm wasted on cold medicine (which is why I haven't posted that Hot Chip video or anything else for days; I still haven't transcribed that FreQ Nasty interview but I'll get right on that)...

I hope you guys like this... I fucking love it. I would call this an 'Arcadian Family Portrait' but I'd rather do that when both the boys are on the track. Anyway, feel free to comment, I'll be back as soon as I can with a NEW HOT CHIP TRACK on video I caught the other night, and the FreQ Nasty interview (which is one of the best interviews I've ever done)...

Too much information! LOTP, Atomica Project, GTA Oxford and more...

Sorry guys. If you've read the comments recently you'll see that I, amongst other things, am a 'lying asshole' and all sorts of other fun things. Because of this comments will be disabled for now.
For those of you who didn't know... I'm getting married in a couple weeks :) Someone took issue with this, so I've had to limit my communication with the outside world, and have been too busy to write... so I'm sorry. I owe more to YOU the person, the other readers, the artists, the promo people, and my future to let that catch me up for tooooooo long.
So, let's get back in the saddle again shall we?
First off is a download of the new Late Of the Pier single "Heartbeat" which many of you know, from the Zarcorp Demos, is amazing. This version in the Erol Alkan produced version that is on the forthcoming album which will undoubtedly blow all our socks off! Don't know how long this is going to be "up" but I guess, get it while you can!
Late Of The Pier- "Heartbeat" Direct Download

NEXT UP... this is a little bit of a rule bend... but I told you I'd be doing this a little more. I did it for Saturna, Romanthony, a handful of bands... they aren't British.... but... I feel confident about posting them. There are artists where I make exceptions to the rule.... well, they are bound to fit more into the scheme of British popular music (i.e. the way most people think of Placebo as a British band even though they aren't, based on the fact they are more popular there than on our own shores) so it seems to make sense to post their music!
Atomica Project have my support first off because they are from Chicago, which even though I don't live there anymore, I consider to be my 'home' to which I will eventually return. So, I gotta support Chicago people, that's just how it is (as long as they are good lol)! The second reason they have my support is because they are really good...
NOW... anything that could possibly fall under 'chill out' is almost completely put out of my head as soon as it is introduced (I think most of us can stand, what, maybe Air? And that's it anymore?)... and although Atomica Project are more subdued than the usual Arcadia fodder, they are certainly not just 'chill out' music. When I heard their song "Forecast" I was really blown away. I'm a big Everything But The Girl fan and I don't think anything (outside of Beth Orton) has really come close to filling that void (Lazy Dog, Cherry Jam, and Tracey's solo album don't count). Atomica Project, however, may have done just that. This song got so stuck in my head that I would leave the house, and as soon as I came back in from where I was, I would have to hear it immediately upon arriving home. In fact I think that Ben Watt should take notice and remix this... you heard me Ben... do it up lol!
The Atomica Project- "Forecast"
Last, and certainly not least, are my boys GTA. The Oxford based duo are two of the only 'non-grime' emcees to make it onto this blog because, well, I find most Brithop boring! But GTA Oxford are more playful, sincere, and engaging than your typical American knockoff gangsta bullshit by a LONG SHOT. Here's a new snippet of their new single which I implore you to check out!
GTA ft Jada Pearl- "The Way"
That ladies and gents is the wrap up for today. Tomorrow in the wee hours of the morning I'll be on the phone with none other than SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO so make sure you stay tuned for the interview we've all be waiting for!

I take back what I said about Brithop... and give you GTA

Remember when I said British hip-hop was mainly a load of shit... that I love grime, but "British hip-hop" (of "Brithop" if you will) too often sounds like an awkward off shoot of American rap (which mostly sucks)? Well, yeah, I sort of have to take that back... at least for these two...
I got an email from a duo called GTA and... um... their new single is effing (I'm trying to get a new job shut up) great. I mean it's really really fun... and I mean that in a good way... like Muscles "My Friend Richard" fun, not watching SpiceWorld fun... you just have to hear it for yourself! It's a good summertime jam that you play over and over in the car with the windows down and the system turned up...
Check the video... you kind of have to or you'd be missing out on half the fun... as Chima said in his email "Considering the UK spends on average £250,000 on each
medical graduate it could be argued this video cost about
£1,000,000 to make..."
Anddddd here's the bio:
Having met at Gosford Hill School (Kidlington) in 2000, Neill Timms a.k.a Ineffable (22) and Chima Anya (23) quickly created a vibe that excited anyone with a vague musical interest in the Oxford vicinity.
Now a fully qualified Practicing Doctor and Assistant Accountant, Chima and Neill, respectively, have embarked upon releasing their debut album, "The Way", with the hope of adding some much needed charisma and sophistication to the UK's "urban" scene.
Drawing influences from the aforementioned hip-hop legends and their cohort, GTA have the substance of old school hip-hop spliced with the cutting edge swagger and charisma of what hip-hop is evolving into. A quote from Chima's facebook:
"The exuberance of the O’Jays, the grandeur of Mozart, the swagger of Jay Dilla, the soul of Al Green, the sentiment of Elton John, the golden tone of early Stevie. Ladies’ and gentlement, I give you… GTA”
Despite Chima moving to Birmingham for 5 years to complete a Medical degree and Neill going on to Oxford Brookes to study Business; they managed, during their student years, to be invited to support legends such as KRS 1, Amp Fiddler, Flavour Flav. They also put out their debut EP, "Love is Here", in conjunction with Blunted Records - a venture hampered both by Blunted's incompetence and GTA's own naivity.
Yikesssss... sounds like they aren't happy with Blunted Records... pause and really take that one in... hmmmmmm... anyway here's the track...
GTA- "Wanna Be Myself"
So yeah, I implore you to buy this if you like it because it's RARE that an artist gives us a high bit rate copy of their single before it comes out... or least downgrade the copy to like 128 for your friends and be like "Yeah, it's sounds great like that but you should hear it when it isn't torn to shreds... go buy it" lol... this is a duo that deserves serious support... you know I don't post crap...
Their Myspace has a few more downloadable tracks and an awesome design so I suggest you check it out.
Until next time... keep your ears and eyes on this space...
