Parlophone re-issues 1st three Radiohead albums

We almost ALL love Radiohead... but do we love their repackaged albums?

I won't front. I now own every Radiohead album on vinyl because the (American distributor) Captiol vinyl re-issues. But do we feel weird about buying these albums? Or does it matter because they were major label albums to start with... hmmmmm... I mean it's not exactly Paint A Vulgar Picture... or maybe it is?!?!? Dunno.

The releases — Pablo Honey, The Bends and OK Computer – will be available as two-CD Collector’s Editons and Limited Edition two-CD+DVD Editions, and feature the original tracks plus demos, live recordings, TV performances, and other rare material.

Pablo Honey’s “Collectors Edition” features the original album on disc one, and demos, rarities, live performance recordings and a 1992 BBC Radio One session on disc two. The “Special Collectors Edition” DVD adds four promotional music videos, the band’s 1993 debut “Top of the Pops” performance, and nine live recordings from their May 1994 London Astoria concert.

The Bends’s “Collectors Edition” features the original album on disc one, EPs with rarities and a 1994 BBC Radio session on disc two. The “Special Collectors Edition” DVD adds five promotional music videos, 1995 and ‘96 TV performances from “Top of the Pops,” “Later with Jools Holland,” “2 Meter Session,” and eight filmed performances from their May 1994 London Astoria concert.

OK Computer’s “Collectors Edition” features the original album on disc one, EPs with rarities and live recordings, and a 1997 BBC Radio One “Evening Session” performance on disc two. So I am a husband.

Wowzers.

We had an awesome ceremony in the middle of the woods, (mostly) close friends and family, and very little drama. The whole thing went perfectly... I mean you couldn't ask for more. I swear. A total dream the whole way through.

Now I'm back to being piss poor broke, and life sucks more than it did during that magical weekend, but at least I've got Aqua Teen Hunger Force Vol 5, a Wii, and a wife!!! Good old wedding presents and wifey :)


A TIP FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO INTEND ON GETTING MARRIED SOONER OR LATER: Take a fucking honeymoon IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE WEDDING. You're a fool not to. If you REALLY love this person, once you've married them you're going to want to be around them non-stop, be with them all day long, and bathe in that perfect feeling that comes from putting that ring on. Don't be a dumbass like me and resume your job on Tuesday. It's an awful idea. Also make sure you balance your bank account or you'll lose all your DVDs to CD Warehouse... just helpful hints!

Black Ghosts are family on this blog so I wanted to let you guys know they had two FREE downloadable bundles out recently. Personally? When a band I like gives me free shit, and I like that free shit? I buy their album. Even if I already have all the songs. I mean, you wouldn't not pay your friend the musician for his songs just because you already had them if he was putting out a cd would you? I'd hope not! IF so stop reading my blog! But seriously, they have given you, me, us a lot and we should show our support... show that the blogosphere works and that giving away free tracks HELPS not HURTS? Agreed? Agreed.

This first band sounds like Klaxons with Alex Turner's brother singing Muse's "Knights Of Cydonia" after putting Ennio Morricone's soundscapes together with Dick Dale's guitar work, mashing them up in a blender, and turning up the "heavy guitar" knob. I usually am very disappointed by what comes across the inbox that doesn't come from the usual suspects but I really fucking like The Bookhouse Boys. It's good shit. Have they been in NME yet? Because if not I'm going to feel like talent scout of the year posting these guys up!

They are on Black Records. They are finishing off their album, getting it mastered, putting the artwork together, and readying it for release on the 18th of August. They are also doing a few festivals over the summer, and putting out another single (as well as a video too). Keep your eye out for all that. I think these guys should be part of the Arcadian family don't you?


Speaking of Arcadian family... Late of the Pier are fucking sweet. Zarcorp Demos are burned into my ears forever and I'm like a junkie awaiting a fix with this new album. Parlophone is all about hooking us up with videos so I guess that'll tide us over until the Erol Alkan produced megaton bomb that is their debut comes out...

I can't forget to mention some serious fireeeeeeee coming from Man Like Me with this joint "Carny". It's just bonkers rave grime awesomeness and I highly recommend it. Prestel has been bringing the jams for fucking real. I loved that (non-British) Romanthony so much a couple months back I had to post it. That's a label that knows what they are doing. So... Parlophone and I are cool... right? We're cool aren't we? Yeah I thought so. That's why they aren't going to C&D my ass for posting this as the Radiohead Best Of is coming out! That would be silly right :) Because it's probably making Parlophone more money me posting this track than not posting it lol...

All jokes aside the little widget for the album is to to your right side (that I might leave up for a minute... mind you not because anyone asked me to but just because).

Now, I know a lot of you have been very "anti" the best of... because your fav song got left off... or because the 2nd disc is better than the first but is limited edition... well... truth hurts... Best Of comps aren't meant for FANS... they are meant for the uninitiated! They are meant for 14 year olds who we're in onesies when "Creep" came out. They are for your uncle who just came out on the other side of his midlife crisis and likes good music now. They are for the now 35 year old former student who stopped really listening to Radiohead after "The Bends" and wants to know if their "new" work is good as everyone says it is. They serve to bring people into the fold, back to the fold, and to remind people of what they are missing. And of yeah... to make money. Probably shitloads of money. Parlophone, no offense, but you guys are probably going to make a lot of money off this one and people are going to be angry for that reason alone...

Why? Because people have a "personal" relationship with Radiohead. The way people do with Jesus. They feel that their feelings and their essence is reflected in Radiohead's art. NOW, this "corporate record label" (now the obvious antithesis of what Radiohead is) is "selling Radiohead out" so that all these sloppy people can have a cursory knowledge of Radiohead. This is life. And it sucks. I would love to drown in Stanley Donwood paintings and listen to "Kid A" and "Amnesiac" back to back everyday for the rest of my life and feel like me and a few other people we're really "PART" of it all... but that isn't real and it isn't going to happen. If you really care about Radiohead be happy they are being exposed to young people who haven't heard them. Fuck the money. Forget the money. Remember why you love Radiohead.

For those of you who have addressed that "In Rainbows" is nowhere to be found... well that's because record labels tend to release the WHOLE back catalogue of an artist and then they do a "Best Of" when the band leave the label... ummmmmmmm... "In Rainbows" wasn't on Parlophone. We know the band is sort of "whatever" about this comp being released. Why would those tracks be on there? Doesn't make any sense.

Now, I'm not some paid lackey but we all know I am fiercely passionate about British music. And up until now the world needed record companies to sell records! Maybe we're past that and the age of selling digital straight from the band is really here... but Parlophone released Supergrass, Babyshambles, and a billion other artists you probably own or listen to. So please stop acting like some crime has been perpetrated! Music is sold... the make the artist money and up to this point the record company is like the pimp that gets the happy hooker out there. Seriously, no offense to record companies, but we all know that's what it is. Maybe it's about support. Maybe it's about art. It's mostly about money unless you're say Astralwerks and then you still have to release soundtracks to make money back.

So I've said my piece. Buy it. Don't buy it. Just stop freaking out about it. And enjoy the song and remember why Radiohead are so great.

The Kooks new album is out now... apparently Luke Kook sat down with AOL and, err, kicked out the jams? :) I love Astralwerks so I have to post it :) I wonder if he knows I have his phone number... hmmmmm...

Lone Kook Luke Pritchard took to our Los Angeles studio recently to deliver a rare acoustic performance of the new tunes, not to mention some old ones, including the band's latest single, 'Always Where I Need to Be.'

While the band may have achieved pop success in their native land with the release of their debut album, 'Inside In/Inside Out,' Pritchard tells Spinner that his Kooks are ready for Stateside stardom. "England is the size of one of your states," he jokes. "We just want everyone to get into it. I'd like it to be received as a great album, one that you'd go back to. It's a dynamic record." NOW.. I realize this isn't British... BUT... we've got to diversify here and well... what better place to start than Romanthony. Now I used to live in Chicago and be a house DJ so Romanthony is like a saint in my world... but for those of you who don't know...

Romanthony (born Anthony Wayne Moore) is an American disc jockey, producer, and singer. He is best known[citation needed] for his work with French duo Daft Punk (he provided the vocals for '"One More Time" and "Too Long" on their Discovery album). His stage name comes from his first name, Anthony, combined with his favorite book of the Bible, Romans.

The new "live reversion" of "Something New vs Lindstrom" is fucking out of this world... like I can't have that track in enough different versions (outside of a 320 kbps version of the original bootleg lol)...

I think I'm just going to put on headphones and walk until I have heard the whole album front to back because this is such an important album to me... can't just listen to it at work, or in the car, or what the fuck ever... kind of like a Bjork album... just too close to my heart. Here at Arcadia, we LOVE Parlophone records. Solid release after solid release after solid release. Between them, and their offshoot Regal, we've been able to bring you stuff from Babyshambles, Tiny Dancers, and The Good The Bad & The Queen far before their release date. It's good for you guys because you get in on the new stuff early, it's good for me because it keeps you guys coming back lol!

Given the fact that they are so nice to us I suggest you guys actually pick up these albums... the Babyshambles EP was so amazing I would be surprised if you guys HADN'T gotten it, Tiny Dancers have gotten a lot of hype since we posted em (Radar in NME, and a session with Steve Lamacq), and OBVIOUSLY this TGTB&TQ album is going to be bonkers awesome. So please, support the labels who are playing ball with us here and prove to the majors and bigger indies that file sharing, blogs, and the like are PART of the future of music and not just a hindrance that should be done away with!

So if you've been paying attention, I'm sure you picked up the last track we posted from Damon Albarn (member of Blur and Gorillaz) and Paul Siminon's (formerly of The Clash) new project The Good The Bad & The Queen called "History Song". It was the amazing first track off their forthcoming album that hints at the same magic that we've seen in other Albarn efforts of the recent past. NOW WE'VE GOT THE 2nd SONG! ON A QUICK POLITICAL NOTE: Since I mentioned something earlier about people wanting to do away with things on the internet... I don't know if you are aware but the Internet is AT RISK of being taken over by the super huge companies out there and turned into a mindless commercial wasteland. Brand new this Monday... Tiny Dancers

Well here's a new one... It was sent over by the good people over at Parlophone... This is truly one where it would be helpful if you guys gave a comment as they really want to know what the public is going to think of these guys. Have they got it? I apparently think so enough to put them on the blog... however I don't want to sit here and sway you with all sorts of praise, so instead I will give you an idea of what you're going to hear on this cut!

Imagine the drumbeat from the Nine Inch Nails cover of Joy Division's 'Lost Souls'... layered over a Manic Street Preachers song... that was trying to score an American alternative radio single in the 1990's but still be edgy... with the atmospherics of The Stone Roses 'I Wanna Be Adored'. If you ask me that is a spot on description. Don't you think?

Tiny Dancers- "20 to 9"

Here's a little excerpt from the band's bio:

'Tiny Dancers are David Kay (vocals, acoustic guitar), Chris ‘Ev’ Etherington (lead guitar, keyboards), Dez Wathey (bass guitar), Duncan ‘Zed’ Morrison (drums) and Glover (keyboards, glockenspiel, percussion, guitar, noise creation). They all grew up in South Kirkby, South Elmsall and Brierley, three small former pit villages marooned in the West Yorkshire countryside between Doncaster and Wakefield. The kind of places where everyone knows everyone else and “there’s always a friendly face”, they were at the very centre of the miner’s strike – although only one of the band is old enough to have a vague memory of it.

Later, music provided a potent escape. In their isolation music from the USA seemed no more exotic than music made far closer to home, so they listened to a wide range from different eras and from both sides of the Atlantic. Indeed, they point out, their villages often had more in common with hick towns in the mid-West than with the nearby music centres of Manchester or Leeds. “It was quite depressed, yet still quite scenic,” says Ev. “And although there was a lot for a kid to do, there was not so much for adults. After the pits closed, you got sawmills and warehouses coming in, woodworkers and stonemasons. So it was a bit like the old West.”

The name is not taken from the Elton John song, but because it just felt right: playful, unassuming, but intimate too. “We like the song, but it’s not a tribute to Elton John or anything. It’s just a happy coincidence. Tiny Dancers has got a good, positive feeling.”

So what will you hear when you hear Tiny Dancers? You’ll hear a distinctly English eccentric take on those strong 60s pop melodies with close harmonies, memorable guitar riffs, touches of country rock, of techno-funk raunch, of post-punk innovation. Most of all, you’ll hear a band that fit into few established pigeonholes, that sound utterly themselves.'
