NEW: South Central's Nirvana bootleg!

Most people who know me know my two favourite bands are The Libertines and Joy Division...

You probably also are aware that I have been a long time supporter of electro-rock firestarters South Central. They've gone from making bootlegs of Late Of The Pier, to touring with The Prodigy, all the while making headlines in magazines like NME and Remix Magazine... They've really come a long way since I first started talking to them and I still think the sky is the limit with these guys!

UPDATE: The recently sent me a track... and it was not supposed to be released! If you did happen to get this rough draft of a certain song PLEASE keep it to yourself. If you were a musician working on something you would at LEAST want to have the public hear the final version before any "demos" made their way to the surface.

In place of that track we have this Nirvana bootleg that I expect will be a staple in many DJ sets! I hope you enjoy this (I know I have) and I'm interested in what you think... please leave your thoughts in the comment section!

We're almost at the end of the year, so I want to thank everyone, and if I can get some more stuff before tomorrow evening I will. Have fun, you all rock! Thank you for everything...

EXCLUSIVE: South Central return with blazing Empire Of The Sun bootleg!

From Club NME, to their now legendary remix of Late of the Pier's "Space & The Woods", South Central have really made waves since they started brutalizing rock music with their buzz saw synths (while giving the bloghaus brigade a run for their money).

They are Arcadian Family... so they do get preferential treatment (in that I listen to their stuff while I don't have time with many others... sorry) no doubt... but it's because they're fucking awesome! I don't grant that status to people unless I think they've got staying power. It's gotta be a band, or artist, who has their own style, who doesn't compromise, who is trying to do something new and South Central embody all that in spirit and in their musical efforts.

So here we are with their new Empire Of The Sun bootleg... just in case you don't know what's up with that band...

"Empire Of the Sun are: Luke Steele, the brilliant but underrated singer and songwriter with Australia's The Sleepy Jackson, whose two albums (2003's Lovers and 2006's Personality: One Was a Spider, One Was a Bird) earned them critical respect but not the widespread attention they deserved. He made a further attempt to widen his appeal last year when he teamed up with Nick Littlemore (formerly one half of Teenager with Ladyhawke's Pip Brown and more recently one half of popular Australian electro duo Pnau)... and tada they kept writing songs together and now they're talked about a lot" (click on the paragraph to read the article I adapted and stole that info from @ the Guardian)

Right and right. WELL anyway... the ever mysterious South Central have given an Empire Of The Sun track the royal Brighton electroshock treatment... and it's free just for you...

South Central- "Empire Of the Bootleg" YSI

NOW... there's an important distinction... a remix is usually made up of "stems" that can be manipulated to make a new product. A bootleg is made up of the original song... no upper hand, no help from the label... just raw talent being used to twist something into a new creation. So keep that in mind... South Central busted their ass without the help of separated vocals and instrumentals just for your pleasure :)

Arcadian Family Portrait: South Central

As mentioned a few times before Arcadia has a group of individuals that comprise a 'family' of sorts. Now some of these people I know well, (or as well as you can know people you've never actually met) and others just have close ties as their people/PR/managers help me out when the time comes for new material to be released... and even the ones I don't they usually are kind enough to do interviews and stuff like that.

SOUTH CENTRAL, however, fit into the first group of people...

I can't even remember how we started talking but I was immediately drawn to their music. I only post stuff I like but they really struck me as being destined for greatness. I've felt like a proud brother or something watching their releases get progressively more and more attention... I was on a certain music retailer the other day and was downloading the Shy Child remixes of "Summer" and was like "FUCK YEAH! There's my guys!" when I noticed the South Central remix (which is the shit by the way).

Due to my enthusiasm, I'm always asking them, "So when are we going to see something new huh?"...

Well the time has come! And I'm very proud to say that you're only going to get this puppy here for the time being! AN ALBION EXCLUSIVE! NEW SOUTH CENTRAL! Ergot (Il Dente del Lupo) is yours to download!

'The Owl of Minerva'
"GOING BACK IN ORDER TO GO FORWARD

The shadowy dance rockers South Central commit their first five single releases to CD, previously available only on vinyl this release comprises of tracks culled from the band’s output on five uber cool labels over the last 2 years.

If the shadowy dance rockers South Central aren’t fully on your radar yet, they will be very soon. The chances are that you’ve already heard the unrelenting power of their music, whether it be on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show, the latest Bacardi commercial or in one of Justice or Erol Alkan’s DJ sets, the sound of South Central is uniquely potent.

Shrouded in mystery (and indeed their trademark black hoods) the enigma that is South Central manifests itself as both a 2-man DJ/Production duo and as a 5-piece live band; the former spectacularly dissolves the boundaries of what DJing and live music are. The latter is the cowled synthesis of guitars and technology that combines the spirit and song of indie rock with the pounding electronics of big-room techno. No surprise then that both the indie kids and the danceheads have signed up for more.

Cast your mind back to Autumn ’06 and you’ll be reminded of the day-glow, neon light that was shining over music labels, night clubs and the radio. The words ‘New’ and ‘Rave’ were being banded about and strung together at every opportunity and the general public started to show real interest in dance music again, with The Klaxons topping the charts and grabbing the headlines. This is also the time when South Central were lifted out of obscurity amidst a combination of adulation and controversy for their now infamous bootleg of said band’s cover of ‘The Bouncer’ (declared Bootleg of the Year by Eddy Temple-Morris in his end of year round up) and their remixes of the Maccabees and Metronomy which were championed by John Kennedy on XFM and Pete Tong on Radio 1 amongst others.

Assured and competent as remixers, in December ’06 they released their own debut single to the outside world via the plucky Leeds based indie ‘Art Goes Pop’, called ‘Nothing Can Go Wrong’, it was later described by the band as an ironic ode to the condition of blind optimism and (often) misplaced faith felt by new bands when they first get together. However for SC the lyrics seemed to become a self fulfilling prophecy, as Fall fans looked on critics debated whether this was a new wave of Glam Rock or just New Rave; whilst the £18 budget video received constant rotation from MTV, in addition to support from Annie Mac and Steve Lamacq.

With a growing back catalogue and fanbase of interest, South Central carried on their label surfing with a string of single releases on Young Turks, Regal and Holiphonic, each one adding a new piece to the puzzle and underlining the South Central ethos of Maximal music, designed for the greatest impact possible but with message in the lyrics. Stimulated by WB Yeats, Orwell, Ouspensky and daring to tackle the taboo subject of child sex rings in ‘Dolls’ on Young Turks, there’s no denying that South Central’s inspirations are deeper than most of their peers.

‘The Owl of Minerva’ is a collection of their finest works of the last 2 years, music that has never been available on CD or mp3, not only acting as a must-have for fans and DJs but also bringing the South Central story right up to the present and paving the way for the South Central debut album in 2009. Taking its title from nineteenth century philosopher Hegel’s assertion that any historical condition can only be understood just as it passes away. It is perhaps no coincidence then that this release also heralds the historic formation of Brighton based ‘Egregore Music’ South Central’s own imprint; realised as means to release South Central output and forthcoming material from like minded souls.

“South Central will have us raving all year long!” - Dazed and Confused

“Golden Dawn has more energy than a hyperactive toddler: a busy blizzard of vocodered vocals, plucked basslines, rave horns and squalling feedback. It’s as if they’re daring people to dance to it, seeing just how far they can push the envelope. Which somehow just makes it all the more indispensable” - IDJ Mag

“This has balls. It’s punk but it’s electro, it hurts your ears but it’s melodic, it’s…it’s…the future I guess, and I like it. This shows a few electro cross-over bands that are out there on our Artrocker radar how it’s really done.” - Artrocker

“…when it goes all old-skool electro it’s rather pleasant - but the overall effect is like being forced screaming into the ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ video and being told you can’t leave until your ears bleed. And believe us, they will.” - NME

"Miss them at your peril, South Central are at the forefront of British electronic music." - XFM Manchester

South Central and MACHINES DON'T CARE... sounds like the best Tuesday of your life...

Funny thing about blogging is eventually the line between promoting someone else's music for fun... and posting about the music of people you like turns into the same thing.

Example: South Central.

South Central are my fucking boys. They produce banger after banger (in a non-Ed Banger way; I'm starting to get a little worn on that whole thing... not to say it isn't good guys; you know I love you) and are cool fucking dudes in the process. Doing a widely publicized remix for an up and coming band like Late Of The Pier, doing a fucking insanely sick mix for Kiss FM, and touring for Club NME would have most young duos/bands getting huge fucking egos and losing all their hard work to too much charlie and groupie head. These guys however just keep plugging along, making new tunes, and checking their ego at the door. Great tunes+great attitude=Eventualbigtimesuccess in my humble opinion.

So I present to you a wicked new remix that shows serious growth towards that goal... this tune is really different from their previous remixes but I reallllllllly like it...

Sneaky Sound System- "Pictures (South Central Remix)"

On a different note.... The world also gets smaller when you blog a lot... eventually people you post about, if you spend enough time working to the heart of this music biz monster, are friends of friends (if they aren't your friends already).

Example: Herve

6 degrees of separation turns into 3 degrees. Herve has done two high profile projects with two of my friends... hopefully someday we will meet... who knows? I think it's fucking awesome though... makes me feel like the world is really small which is nice in an age where there is no community anywhere. Now his Machines Don't Care project is getting closer to having an album released so I'm giving you a track off it.

Machines Don't Care- "On A Roll Man"

APPARENTLY Machines Don't Care isn't just a couple of names you'd expect to see next to Herve's. It's like a BUNCH of names... MACHINES DON’T CARE are HervĂ©, Sinden, Trevor Loveys, Affie Yusef, Toddla T, Fake Blood, Detboi & Drop The Lime?!?!? WTF? That boy Toddla T is making it happen I tell ya... I'm trying to get him back on the line but looks like he's hella busy lol...

This track was passed on from their website Machinesdontcare.com... go check it out...

I love this fucking track. It's like straight up acid, with an MC with a heavy accent, with strange vocal drops that I can't tell if they're watermarking or part of the track. It reminds me of current stuff, with a pinch of Josh Wink, and then the first half of Simon Reynold's book "Energy Flash" all put into one song. It's ravey and it's bonkers and I love it...

Speaking of ravey and bonkers... the video for my boy Larry Tee's song "Licky" (which appears to be the original song superimposed on top of Herve's remix) is finally out. It's weird to me the life of some songs. Like... "We Are Your Friends"? That song could still blow up a room right now. Doesn't matter how many times it's been played (other songs from the same time period as the original release I doubt we can even remember). Same with this track. I got it March of last year, it's been officially released, put on loads of comps, Santogold put a verse over it for Steve Aoki, and this fucking thing just keeps on ticking! It's a testament to how fucking truly genius the man is. Shit even I've posted about it in some form like 5 times. Check it out... Princess Superstar is awesome...

Let me say something real quick though before I end this post. Don't get me wrong for two seconds. This doesn't make me special. I wear a blue shirt and khakis, lift heavy shit all day long, am despised by my coworkers, and making barely over minimum wage in the process. I can barely ever pay for anything other than flowers for my girl and discounted "Ice Cream" trainers. I'm treading water like there's no tomorrow. But at least there is something exciting in the middle of that shit storm and it's knowing that almost every day some artist I like or someone I know has a new tune out... and I'm proud to help represent that. So it doesn't make me special... Simian Mobile Disco calling and waking me up last Friday was cool, but it didn't make me special. When I have an album done and people recognize that (if that ever even happens) then that's a whole 'nother something. But it in meantime I'm here to spread the gospel of other people's amazing work and enjoy doing it :)

See you on the next post!

This is just random FIRE... Riton, Van She, Marv, The Whip, South Central, and more...

So sometimes beautiful diamond tracks get lost as everything is strewn about... I'm hustling so hard to get things done that I lose track of things I REALLY want to post...

This would be these four tracks...

Ok, here's the first rule bender. Hercules & Love Affair ain't quite from ol' Blighty. BUT Riton is and therefore this can totally get posted. I could have gotten the jump on everyone because I got it a while ago but once again, life called and I answered, and this track has sat around crying waiting for me to come back since then :( But now like a shit father I pass it off on you... even if I am passing on parental rights please get Hercules & Love Affair to stop dancing so much. I would like them to play football. And drink more often, and other more masculine and less socially responsible things than dance. Although I gotta say that "Club Mix" version of "Blind" made me want to dance... but only a little... in the mirror singing into a hairbrush... but only a little... I'm still straight despite that and owning a Lemar and Duley Rainbow hoodie... that's why I want my estranged track of a son here to be a footie hooligan...

Hercules & Love Affair- "You Belong (Riton Remix) YSI

Hercules & Love Affair- "You Belong (Riton Remix) Rapidshare

Now this one is a little off the beaten path... there has been talk about setting aside one day a week to hit the Brit related but not quite British releases (such as this one). I was told jokingly that Ladyhawke is LIVING in England right now and that should count for something lol... and over at the "Albion" show we use the excuse that Australia is "Britain's Prison Island" and therefore it's ok to play artists like Van She (or in this case Van She Tech). The song is fucking FIRE so it deserves a post and lots of play. I'm only giving you a low bitrate version of this so you can go be a responsible music buyer and get yourself a REAL copy of this! I mean don't tell me this isn't fucking awesome...

Ladyhawke- "Back Of The Van (Van She Turbo Fire Engine Mix) YSI

Ladyhawke- "Back Of The Van (Van She Turbo Fire Engine Mix) Rapidshare

This one makes me want to cry that I waited to post it. I was SOOOOO into it. But the not having a job, then car crash, then subsequent things that came from that got me way off the track. I actually I thought I had posted this actually! How sad is that? But it's a fucking baller track... all that superhero talk is a good way to get me locked into a track. I'm a fucking nerd. Like Lupe said "I am American mentally, with Japanese tendencies, and Parisian sensibilities"... but more I'm British mentally, and American residentially lol... that Japanese tendencies shit basically means you use chopsticks and read manga watch anime lol...

Marvin The Martian- "Superhero (Superfriends Remix Part 1) Feat. Example & Akira The Don"

Marvin The Martian- "Superhero (Superfriends Remix Part 1) Feat. Example & Akira The Don" Rapidshare

Now this one I'm going to ASSUME is blog safe because that's how I got it. South Central are friends of the Arcadia so I wouldn't do something I didn't think was in their best interests (especially because State Crime has a song in the works that I'd realllllllly like them to remix lol; btw guys I'll send you the rough demo here soon). South Central (like Frankmusik and Black Ghosts) will get preferential treatment until the end of time here because I like them and I think they are cool fucking guys. The Whip are pretty awesome in my eyes too right now... X Marks Destination is a wonderful record I suggest you all pick up. All the single and the new album are over at eMusic which you can get to from the link below or to your left (help us all make a little money yeah?)... I'm only posting this YSI because I think you need to go buy it...........

The Whip- "Trash (South Central Remix)"

Ok and that's it for now... once again interview from Metronomy, Kash, and Black Ghosts in the works... releases from Astralwerks, Fabric, Parlophone, and about 10,000 PR firms soon to come :) Keep it locked. Oh yeah and join eMusic so I can start to do this as a partial career and not just a free time killer!

OVERLOAD... A bunch of stuff you need to see/know... LOTP, South Central, Cazals, and errrr... KT Tunstall?

I like how 'yours truly' is in the lower right hand corner of their top friends :)

Ok this isn't a song.. but it's just as cool... trust me... Parlophone just send this gem from Late Of the Pier out a couple days ago...

THE BEARS ARE COMING!!!!
Watch out here as a stream here or here

Speaking of LOPT... See when Sam and I (as State Crime) try to write a song we try to write songs that sound like you're so fucking dementedly wasted that you can't function... either something really evil and powerful, or something so off base it's like you're falling down the stairs... (even though we are both like the two most sober people on earth lol)... Like you ever get that feeling that you're coming up so fast that you might fucking die? Like you might literally pop right through the fucking ceiling... like that scene where Willy Wonka is in the glass elevator? In my opinion that's how songs should sound if they're gonna capture your attention (or way understated like Burial). Well the last people who really achieved that in song for me were my boys South Central when they did their remix of Late Of The Pier's "Space And the Woods"... which I was reminded of today when their page for that remix popped up as having a birthday on Myspace... which made no sense because it said something about September?!?!

But it reminded me of this mysterious video hyping that awesome bootleg... did you get your copy?

If you didn't make it over there when it first came out check it out over at XIII Myspace. Or go cop their free XFM mix over at Last.fm.

UPDATE:
And back on the bootleg tip... I saw a post about, what? Like a week ago? Saying they were shooting a video for The Count & Sinden - Beeper from my boy Curt from Flosstradamus and thinking.... "Errrr what the fuck does Floss have to do with the "Beeper" record?!?!" (check the last post on Herve's 'Cheap Thrills' Label if you're way confused)... and now I know... the mega bootleg from last year has turned out to be the party anthem of this year with Kid Sister filling in for FamLay and Pharrell... and she does a fucking wicked job too... I know it's not British but it ties back to a prior post and... well it's hotness...

Now... this isn't an track either but rather and annoucement...

So I guess get ready to cop that and keep your eyes open... And lastly... I'm just trying to post a bunch of stuff now... and this is not my normal fare... BUT... it is Bloc Party... do what you will with it... I'm not even gonna link it up... just cut and paste kids...

The best day of your life... remixed...

Boy what a week. Exhausting to say the least. HOWEVER, I've got the light at the end of the tunnel however on my hard drive... I've got the hottest fucking remixes on earth and all of them straight from the source (which means that high bitrate you DJs are seeking)!

I just checked my email to find that Arcadia favs To My Boy had just sent over their "previously un-blogged" Sinden remix of their track "Model". This song, without question, has peak time dancefloor tune written all over it. A few years from now you'll hear this tune on a mix cd that you forgot you had and think "Man, 2007 was full of fucking bangers! That To My Boy track reminds me of how awesome life was before robots took over the world"... no, but seriously, this is the sound of the summer hands down...

Rally around for an Arcadia Exclusive...

To My Boy- "Model (Sinden Remix)" zShare

To My Boy- "Model (Sinden Remix)" YSI

As if that weren't enough... I've got more shit to get you moving. My last post was a b-side from awesome dance-rockers South Central... and apparently they enjoyed what I had to say about them because they hooked me up with some remixes for you guys! I hope you guys dig these as much as I do... South Central are like Sam and my template for State Crime... one day we'll gather up some money and get them to do remixes for us.. keep you eyes are ears peeled for that one lol...

The first track is a remix for newbies Twisted Charm that hasn't been posted anywhere else yet. I was reading 'Dazed and Confused' and came upon a little article about them so my interest was already piqued... and then BOOM, S.C. shoot their wicked grimey remix of their track into my inbox and not only was my curiosity satiated but I was also blown away. I have yet to hear the original but if it's half as awesome as this remix I'll pass out.

Twisted Charm- "Boring Lifestyles (South Central Extended Remix)" zShare

And lastly is a South Central remix (and Arcadia exlusive) for a band I've kind of slept on. I saw a bit about Radar in errrr Radar (in NME) I think a couple months back but didn't take the time to look them up because I'm usually wading in a sea of music that goes up to my eyeballs. The nugget floated to the top of that sea and South Central bring the pain and rock the dance floor to pieces.

I hope you guys enjoyed this overdose of awesomeness. I can easily say that this is the single greatest day in Arcadia history... please leave comments and let To My Boy and South Central know that you appreciate it. In the meantime keep checking back for more of your British favourites.

P.S. Just as a reminder... THIS NEXT WEEKEND IS PITCHFORK FESTIVAL! KLAXONS, FUJIYA AND MIYAGI, AND LOADS OF OTHER AWESOME BANDS ARE PLAYING. I WILL BE TAKING PICTURES AND POSTING THEM UP TOUT SUITE FOR YOU GUYS... IF YOU'RE GOING (to the festival or the Klaxons DJ set) HOLLA AT ME!

South Central does it better

Right now is a funny time for music. We just had the greatest explosion of of awesomeness in ages. SMD, Justice, Klaxons, NYPC, Hadouken, Supersystem, Shy Child, To My Boy, Black Ghosts, Shitdisco... and labels like Kitsune, Ed Banger, and countless other tiny labels that released your fav singles of the year. Everything has been fucking baller for the last 18 months.

But now what?

Who are the new heroes? Because most of what I have been hearing sounds like Daft Punk smoking crack in a closet full of bouncy balls that are ricocheting off the walls. Or like some new combination of SOME rock genre mixed with SOME electronic genre. Maybe like no wave and gabber. I dunno but... Seriously... Blog house is fucking over. And if your band failed at being a guitar band, don't go buy synthesizers! The vultures are coming in and you can smell the stink of death for miles.

We may be facing an unstable musical future BUT the fun is "not over yet" (cue Klaxons... har har). There are still a couple of awesome bands whose records have simply not come out yet. They aren't band wagon hoppers... they just have summer release dates! One of those awesome bands is, Arcadia favourite, South Central!

They have a new track coming out in August called "Machine". It's a limited run of 500 through the Regal Singles Club (which means I'd get on top of that if I were you)... I've got the b-side however right now, which I'll post at the bottom of the page...

Just to get your mouth watering... here's a little bio info if you didn't catch it last time...

The Brighton-based duo dubbed - “the British Justice”, by Eddy Temple Morris, Xfm - are a Band/DJ production team who are leading the vanguard of the new generation of artists melding both indie and electro influences. South Central rose to prominence providing innovative dance cuts for the likes of Shitdisco, Sunshine Underground and The Maccabees to name but a few. This already illustrious list is set to expand over the summer months with Twisted Charm, Dandi Wind and Shychild locked and loaded ready for the most demanding summer dance floors!

‘Machine’ is immense, a heady surge of unstoppable, warped Electro. Cerebral as well as Fabric friendly, both ‘Machine’ and the equally glorious flipside ‘Revolution’ were apparently inspired by the work of two Philosopher/Mystics of the ‘Fouth Way’ from the turn of 20th Century, G.I. Gurdjieff and P.D. Ouspensky. ‘Machine’ refers to Gurdjieff’s theory that the ordinary man is a machine who is only capable of reacting to what acts upon him. ‘Revolution’, with its repeated refrain “Can’t Stop The Wheel’”, is a reference Ouspensky’s only novel, ‘The Strange Life of Ivan Osokin’, which is based on the theory of eternal recurrence (think ‘Ground Hog Day’). The title ‘Revolution’ also pays homage to South Central’s favourite system kicking Psychedelic rock anthem from Spacemen 3.

It is also common knowledge that Gurdjieff expounded the idea that mankind’s souls existed only as a source of food for the Moon… fear of becoming lunar lunch won’t be enough to stop South Central reaching for the sinister satellite!

Loads of new music... Hadouken!, South Central, FADER Podcast, Saturna

I thought it was time for a more proper Hadouken! post. To tell you the truth the first time I heard them I wasn't sure if I liked them or not. They were so different from the flouro wearing bands out there that I was in a state of musical shock... but that turned out to be a good thing. Now I drive to work in the morning pumping "That Boy That Girl" and find myself sending their YouTube videos to friends and asking their management for a liner for my radio show lol (perhaps we can get through this one without being called the "most shittest fucking radio station on earth"... see prior post if you don't get that joke!).

Just in case you don't know anything about Hadouken!... well I actually don't know anything about them either... how come no new bands have bios?!?!?!? I was going to give you some background but I have none!

Here's what NME has to say about them though:
"''London lot Hadouken! are the freshest thing on the site this week by miles. They sound angry, they sound smart and they sound like something youll be hearing a lot more of in the coming months. Best tune 'That Boy That Girl is a savage, snarling work of genius that makes me want to smash bottles over my head. In a good way." NME"

I don't want to steal their thunder so I'm not going to post "That Boy That Girl", or the b-side "Tuning In", because you should go BUY those... but I do have a version of "Dance Lesson" that seems to be at a low enough kbps that their label won't get upset (but it's still decent enough to want to listen to it repeatedly). I also thought I'd throw up the Plan B remix they did seeing as it's fucking dope...

Hadouken!- "Dance Lesson"

Plan B- "No More Eatin' (Hadouken Remix)"

Now another band I'd like to post about is South Central... only problem is I don't have much to tell you about them either! I can't find any info really other than their Myspace... apparently they've been opening for Klaxons and, if I'm to believe what the posts on their Myspace say, the Klaxons boys called them "cunts". Maybe that's a good thing... anyway you cut it they make some good music. I've been really really into their Sunshine Underground remix (p.s. did that come out here in the U.S.? The Sunshine Underground album? I want it but I can't find a place to download it!) recently... check their shit out @ Myspace.

The Maccabees- "X-Ray (South Central Remix)"

Shitdisco- "Reactor Party (South Central Remix)"

I don't think South Central have an album out yet.. but they do have a real interesting video where their directors blew all the money on blow and strippers... check it out below...

NOW DON'T GO JUST YET! THERE'S STILL LOADS OF COOL SHIT TO DOWNLOAD!

It's fucking free Fader Magazine/podcast time again! I have to tell you guys I love this shit... seriously... let me tell you why...

We don't have Internet at work anymore (because they thought we weren't doing any work, even though our checks are performance based so we get screwed if we don't do work... I know, it doesn't make sense)... and the boredom is skull crushingly awful when you're dialing phone numbers for 5 hours straight... so it's nice to be able to save a PDF on a flash drive, drag the podcast with it, and make work time a little more exciting... The Fader makes life a little more worth living for those few hours everyday... I wish they put out MORE PDFs and podcasts because when I'm done reading their shit I have to retreat to lesser magazines to take their place until the next issue comes out...

Here's a little more info:

New York, NY: The FADER magazine, the definitive voice of emerging music, releases its 45th issue, putting Smog genius Bill Callahan on the cover after 20 years of heartbreak evolved into his current album, Woke on a Whaleheart. It's the first album under his real name instead of the "Smog" moniker, and The FADER finds out the full story. Also gracing the cover is producer Polow Da Don: a not-so-secret weapon who has crafted cutting-edge sounds for everyone from Fergie, Ludacris, R Kelly and the Pussycat Dolls. You may have also heard his current monster smash "Throw Some D's" by Rich Boy. Polow is radio's next super producer.

Also knocking socks off this issue are Noah Lennox, better known as Panda Bear from Animal Collective, and his new album flooding with “me-me-ness,” Gyptian and his regal aura of roots reggae, the fantastic damage of Atlanta's snottiest punks known as Black Lips, the demented mindgarden of Mobb Deep's legendary Prodigy and intimate portraits from Kabul by photographer Stephen Dupont. As always, F45 will also be available via iTunes in its entirety, with corresponding audio podcasts, and as a free download at www.thefader.com.

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE
On the covers:

Bill Callahan

“I don’t think I write in character as much as Randy Newman does, but it’s probably closer to being in character [than being me]. I always think I’m telling universal stories.”

Polow Da Don

"I’ve become the main guy, that means producers are following me. What that means is real music comes back, because what I do is real music. When that happens, then I did my job.”

Also between the pages:

Noah Lennox

“I feel like when I listen to an Animal Collective album, I can be like, ‘This part of the song, there’s a lot of me in that part.’ But with Person Pitch it’s just like flooding with me—me-ness.”

Gyptian

“I’m not the artist to separate from music. Wherever I hear music, ears dem cock up. Like Shabba say: Deejay ears cock up when they hear boom riddim.”

The Black Lips

“We ended up singing Lynyrd Skynyrd with the cops and stuff, joking around. They had to take us to jail because the mushrooms were a felony. But we made them laugh—we played Rock, Paper, Scissors to see who was gonna take the charge.”

Prodigy

“We were like, ‘We gotta bring back that feeling.’ Not bring back the old music, because we never go backwards with that, but if we could capture the old vibe…”

And of course, The FADER’s own Gen F section where the most essential artists bubbling up from the underground make their debut appearance. This month’s artists include DG Yola, Dion, David Vandervelde, Munga Honorable, Turf Talk, Wild Beasts and Bunji Garlin.

Hells yeah! *That Presets track is fucking baller... I play that non-stop every where I go... when we were down in Miami we were at two different events they were playing at (Mansion, and Churchill's) and I only ended up seeing ONE SONG! We were too busy both times to stay and watch (but we did get them our demo) and I'm heart broken about it. Hopefully I'll get to see them soon!*

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST! I wanted to drop a little info here about Saturna... you've seen them here on Arcadia before (even though they aren't British) because I feel like people who listen to some of the bands on this blog will be into them. They've employed a more epic feel to newer tracks making a perfect mix between shoegazey atmosphere and balls out indie rock reminsciesnt of the best bands of the 90's (Pavement, Stone Roses, Pixies, Ride).

I know most bloggers get loads and loads of demos (I should know... I just sent all my demos for State Crime to Fluo Kids, Discobelle, Acid Girls etc) from people and most of them end up not making it onto their sites, but these guys really have something special. I'm actually proud that these guys wanted me to post their stuff... that's how good they are! This new track "Roll Down" is fucking fantastic. I hope you guys enjoy it! I should also mention as well there was a Saturna post over @ Milk Milk Lemonade and you can hear more of their music on Myspace.

Saturna- "Roll Down"

When these guys blow up (and they're on the cover of magazines like Fader or something like that) just remember where you heard about them first!

Hope you guys enjoyed the post... as always comments are welcome... I'll be back asap to bring you more new British music!

(P.S. I'm not sure if they wanted me to post to their MP3s or link to their stream so I'm just going to post "Roll Down" via YouSendIt... there will only be 100 downloads and you've only got a week to get them.)
