Lily Allen's OFFICIAL "Womanizer", as well as video goodies from The Fratellis and more!

Ahhhh yes... as we near the all the Holidays... Chrismukkah, Festivus, and the other ones people celebrate... we're seeing lots of goodies come from our musical friends.

First off... both Lily Allen and Ladyhawke have been getting blogged about like CRAZY for their covers of Britney Spears' "Womanizer" track. I got an email letting me know that the Lily Allen version wasn't even the finished product. Lily is never one to let down on a cover, so here you go... this is the OFFICIAL version :)



EDIT: Had to take down "The Fear" videogame... not because it wasn't cool... but because the flash game was slowing down my crappy 2001 Mac and I didn't like music popping up when people visited. So I still love you Lily! But I couldn't keep that up :(

While we're going for video treats we've got The Fratellis on board here as well. Cherrytree Records has got some nice intimate performances from some big names, with more to come... for good measure (due to her immense popularity) I'll post the Feist one as well (even though she isn't British)...

Ah yes... well I have work to do.. just thought I'd give you some nuggets of cheer and then get back to the grind. And I still have like 10 billion inches of snow to drive through!

BTW, On another completely different note... after getting back in the spirit of Zombie movies (because doesn't Christmas make you think of zombies? With the mall and all?) I have to say that MARVEL ZOMBIES: Dead Days has been one of the most fun 'adult' oriented comics I've read in a while. I picked it up from B&N and it's such a fun read. To those of you who still have a little dork left in you (of come on, you fucking watch Heroes, and I'm sure you saw The Dark Knight at least three times; stop pretending you're not a geek) I'd say it's a good place to get back into mature themed comics without feeling like a total loser. Next on my list is Watchmen before the movie comes out... but first I have to read some normal books or my wife is gonna kill me. Ok, be back as soon as I can!

200th POST! Arcadian Family Portrait: Heads We Dance (Plus Free Mixtape!)

I figured we needed something special for the 200th post so here it is. I want to say thank you to all of you, the people on the inside and the people behind the keyboards for everything. This blogging thing has changed my life and I never would have guessed that when I started this account. So I hope this is as much fun for you as it is for me... but I really just wanna say thank you.

Heads We Dance have received quite a lot of coverage here on the site... enough to warrant being part of the fam. I liked their music from the time we first spoke, and their involvement with Frankmusik is what allowed me to become chummy with Monsieur Vincent.

Heads We Dance do a type of pop music that the world needs more of. I'm very sad that right now in music most "pop" is ephemeral and won't endure at all. The remixes may be fun but the longevity does not exist. For Heads We Dance, this is not even an issue which is why I keep my ear to the ground for everything they do.

You may have caught previous bios but it bears repeating :)

Leeds based band Heads We Dance write "custom chromed aerodynamic pop" (Losing Today) influenced by Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, Roxy Music, Timbaland and Pet Shop Boys. Taking their name from a Kate Bush lyric, Heads We Dance are inspired by the early sci-fi visions of 'Metropolis', Aldous Huxley and Philip K Dick, and a fascination with love, modern life and the internet. Heads We Dance played their first show at the Dead Disco single launch in September 2006, three weeks after forming, and have since been described live as achieving " an unfathomably glamorous and energetic take on disco pop... damn, it's great to watch" (via Tasty fanzine)

Ahhh yes... so many of my fav bands share that love of Philip K Dick (I'm looking at you Vince) and Huxley. I literally feel like this is music I've been waiting my whole life to hear. Not that there are other bands that haven't been influenced by the same things... don't misunderstand me... it's that these are the some of the first groups in my generation that are making waves and know what they stand for. The talk the talk, walk the walk, read the books, and have impressive record collections (no doubt). I need this from artists/bands that I want to align myself with... commonality in the most uncommon way... HWD are those types of trailblazers.

I meant to get this up a couple of days ago but this cold WILL NOT go away. Sorry about that... I promise I'm doing everything I can to keep things moving.

That's perfect for the drive to work or cardio at the gym. Unlike some mixtapes you see online and think "is this any good?"... I can assure you this one is exactly what you wanna hear... Bang bang bang on the wall... Ladyhawke again!

So last night I watched the film adaptation of the Luke Davies masterpiece Candy (starring the late Heath Ledger)... and not only did it make me wonder if that film was more responsible than any other for his demise... but it made me think more about how we totally overlook Australia constantly.

I mean shit... The Presets, Van She, Modular HQ... That should be enough to keep people focused on Australia for a while but if not we can throw Ladyhawke into the mix.

This is the third post Arcadia has dedicated in some way to Ladyhawke... and in some small way I think that means that she gets a full on stamp of approval. Maybe even induction into Arcadia family?!? We'll see. She's not British, but she's living in London from what I hear, and she is from Britain's prison island (it's just a joke, just a joke) and I think that's probably enough to at LEAST put her in the extended family lol.

This remix is the type of stomper (especially for people who need to stop playing "Standing In The Way Of Control") that will get you wild in a club even if it's the first time you've heard it.

Got some good stuff today... first off...Hervé & Sinden's new project Machines Don't Care. It's at the point where I don't see how these guys can do any wrong! It blows me away how much sheer quality they are pumping out but then again these guys work solo and in duos so there's a lot of potential for song making... shit is fireeeeeeee...

On another tip... sooooooooooooo... Ladyhawke isn't British. But she lives in the UK... and for today that's enough because the remix last time was sick and so is this one...

To roughly tie this all together... I was in the UK in 1999 in my hotel watching what was an absolutely awful stretch of MTV with Alice Deejay and the like... and suddenly I saw this fucking amazing video with all these words buzzing all over the place and I was completely wowed by the music and the video. That of course was Alex Gopher's The Child. The Verve Remixed albums probably owe Alex Gopher a lot for creating a real opening for jazz vocals and electronic music (not as though it hadn't been done before but this song was huge). The dialogue is probably a little much but I suppose... but it is still a design geeks wet dream... mmmm typography :) Over all the video has aged really well...




So that has nothing to do with anything, other than me making an excuse to put a French remixer up, but it's still worth posting the video! And it's a good memory. Despite only being a resident I'm gonna keep my eye on Ladyhawke... and I advise you to do the same :)

Ok, here's the first rule bender. Hercules & Love Affair ain't quite from ol' Blighty. BUT Riton is and therefore this can totally get posted. I could have gotten the jump on everyone because I got it a while ago but once again, life called and I answered, and this track has sat around crying waiting for me to come back since then :( But now like a shit father I pass it off on you... even if I am passing on parental rights please get Hercules & Love Affair to stop dancing so much. I would like them to play football. And drink more often, and other more masculine and less socially responsible things than dance. Although I gotta say that "Club Mix" version of "Blind" made me want to dance... but only a little... in the mirror singing into a hairbrush... but only a little... I'm still straight despite that and owning a Lemar and Duley Rainbow hoodie... that's why I want my estranged track of a son here to be a footie hooligan...

I was told jokingly that Ladyhawke is LIVING in England right now and that should count for something lol... and over at the "Albion" show we use the excuse that Australia is "Britain's Prison Island" and therefore it's ok to play artists like Van She (or in this case Van She Tech).
