REMIX FEVER! More Late Of The Pier action!

Looks like Late Of The Pier are going to be the Arctic Monkeys of the Klaxon generation.. or something... or the Radiohead of the new rave generation... or... no, none of those are right... well they are fucking awesome is the point. I love em. Thom Yorke loves em. We all love em. There is very little I need to say about them because if you read blogs you already know everything... just in case...

Late of the Pier are an alternative electro pop band from 'home of metal' Castle Donington. Their main success has been throughout London and the new clubs and scenes in the area. Especially in the under-18 scene with shows such as Way Out West and the more recent All Ages Concerts. They have been met with considerable interest over the past year and released thier bedroom recorded debut single Space & The Woods/Heartbeat.Flicker.Line on Way Out West Records.
LOTP finally look set to take off with new single 'Bathroom Gurgle' on Moshi Moshi Records to be released in August 2007.

Band Members:
Rouge Dog Consuela - Drums
Jack Paradise - Akai 1000 Sampler
Francis Dance - Bass Guitar/Synths
Earl Samuel Dust - Lead Guitar/vocals/synths

LA Priest is a related project, whose electro instrumental 'Engine' was released on Erol Alkan's Phantasy Sound label.

Word. They are fucking fire. They are now signed to Regal (and the MP3 is courtesy of dear Katherine over there!) which means we can be looking for a full length in the not too distant future. Remember Babyshambles singed to Regal and BAM they had an E.P. out... so hopefully that's on it's way. Anyway, this verions of this song is way more sedate that I expected but I like it... I'm going to back it up with the remix my boys South Central did a couple months back of the same song that will make your brain boil it's so hot. Caliente! Is that how you spell that?

Get that South Central remix while you can. HURRY!

In the meantime help make me some money and keep this blog open by opening an eMusic account from here and downloading some other band LIKE LOTP (since they aren't on eMusic yet lol)... maybe the Black Ghosts? Friendly Fires? Talk to you soon...

What a shambles, what a shambles, what a shambles...

Well my friends the time is upon us... for the greatest release of the year (next to Klaxons, M.I.A., and well lots of albums but lets ignore that for now!) BABYSHAMBLES- Shotter's Nation to come out... and Albion has a track from it just for you! Sadly, it didn't come from the source as it usually does BUT I think the source will be o.k. with it seeing as I heard they're sending it out to other people before me (boo).

Here it is in all of its glory...

All you damn Brits make sure you get out to your news stand and get your NME before the 7" single sells out... I bet you this one gives the White Stripes one a run for the money... there are so many of us Doherty obsessives that there is no way this won't be huge! Someone want to ship me one? I think my news guy is going to fuck me out of mine and buy up all the copies because we are feuding since me snubbed me about a DJing gig... prick... (Why? Why would you do that when I'm trying to be kind turn down my offer to play a dubstep set for your hippie friends? Why? Because you're fucking rude that's why!)

Here's an awesome vid for "Delivery" you've probably already seen but why not watch it again!

EDIT: Parlophone sent me the email with the track... I just hadn't gotten it yet. Even my email says they had sent it out earlier... must be connection issues. Anyway their email had more video info I thought you might be interested it!

I cannot fucking wait until the album comes out. I think I'm just going to put on headphones and walk until I have heard the whole album front to back because this is such an important album to me... can't just listen to it at work, or in the car, or what the fuck ever... kind of like a Bjork album... just too close to my heart. I'm sure it will be awesome.

Hope you all enjoyed! Check back for updates! Leave comments! Join eMusic from here!

PROMO TIME! New Athlete & Envelopes mix tape

Athlete are a band that I'm cool with. Not in terms of knowing them or anything... It's just sometimes I think "oh, I'd like to hear that Athlete song" and I dig though my 150 gigs of music and find their cover of "God Only Knows" or one of the songs off their last album (which was quite good I thought) and usually end up playing it on my radio show. Outside of that I don't know a ton about them... I can tell you their press blurb does though!

Athlete have been busily attaching foam strips to walls and building glass cubes to imprison singers in. Yes they’ve built their own studio, locked their producers in a cupboard downstairs, thrown away the key, and are doing it all themselves. 'Beyond The Neighbourhood' is the fruit of these endeavors. Louder, stronger, bigger and altogether more powerful than anything they’ve done before, it sounds like a band who have settled into what they really enjoy doing. They also did two totally different videos for the first single off the album, 'Hurricane', and I've got the links to them here...

Hurricane (normal video)

Hurricane (alt video)

Here's an interesting blurb from Wiki...
"Their second album, Tourist, reached Number One in the UK Album Charts in its first week, following the huge success of single Wires, which, in 2006, won them the Ivor Novello Award for "Best Contemporary Song". In the UK charts, the band has frequently been frustrated by singles just missing out on top 40 placings, due to inconsistent support by music television channels and radio stations. For instance, certain songs, such as "Wires" and "Half light", were played up to 10 times a day on larger UK radio stations, yet other singles such as Westside and Tourist received little to no radio play whatsoever, fueling talk of radio stations deciding who becomes a major player in the pop music franchise."

Well I certainly hope they 'make it' this time... I actually really dig this tune... and hopefully you will too... so ignore the impulse to steal it and go off and buy it yeah?

Envelopes I could tell you even less about... but they seem to be fun! Their mixtape is a mish mash of their album which I promise you is worth a listen... here's their press blurb...

'There'll be no stopping them' – The Guardian

'Effortlessly cool and packed with chutzpah' – Music Week, Feb 2007

"Skewed post-punk pop genius" – Artrocker, April 2007

""First class sun-dried indie" – NME , May 2007

Envelopes return this summer with brilliant new single 'Life on the Beach'. This is the sound of a solar eclipse, as filtered through a mescaline soaked B52s and some pretty surreal imagery. The groove is obese. Henrik and Audrey tell this tale of decadence and denial in tropical setting, surrounded by the swampiest drums and guitars you've ever heard. The single will be a limited edition 7" backed by new track 'Calypso'. 'Calypso' is sweet experimental pop without any lifelines. Ambulance sirens, stirring guitar lines and a middle eight sung in French, it's perfectly formed, bristling pop.

Envelopes are a five piece who have made their homes all across Europe. Brought together by a shared love of skewed, lo-fi pop, they sound like all your favourite bands put together, whilst also sounding like none but themselves. Living in Stockholm, Malmo and Paris the band fought geography, and won: spending enough time together during school holidays to home-record their truly special debut album 'Demon', released very quietly on the newly formed Brille Records in late 2005. 'Demon' which means 'demo' in Sweden, suggested Envelopes were certainly the coolest band to emerge out of Sweden and France via York, where they subsequently moved to rehearse and begin work on their album proper.

To coincide with the release of 'Life On The Beach' on 17th September, the band have made a full mp3 (over 30 mins worth!!) of a mish-mash of Envelopes and their favourite tracks available to all on their website -

Envelopes- "A Soup Of Germs Mixtape"

So yeah, go to town with that... Usually I'd have more energy to post even more music but... I don't... I don't... I've been spending so much time doing State Crime stuff that I haven't had a moment to really dig in and do the blog... but trust me, that time is just around the corner!

SPEAKING OF STATE CRIME: Palms Out Sounds just posted the mash-up that Curt Autobot from Flosstradamus and I did (quite a few years ago... shhhhhhh don't tell anyone) called Timbaland vs Shakedown- "Drop it At Night (State Crime vs Flosstradamus)". I'm not going to post it here, so go over there and indulge in Remix Sunday!

I'll be back. In the mean time make me some money at eMusic lol...

South Central does it better

Right now is a funny time for music. We just had the greatest explosion of of awesomeness in ages. SMD, Justice, Klaxons, NYPC, Hadouken, Supersystem, Shy Child, To My Boy, Black Ghosts, Shitdisco... and labels like Kitsune, Ed Banger, and countless other tiny labels that released your fav singles of the year. Everything has been fucking baller for the last 18 months.

But now what?

Who are the new heroes? Because most of what I have been hearing sounds like Daft Punk smoking crack in a closet full of bouncy balls that are ricocheting off the walls. Or like some new combination of SOME rock genre mixed with SOME electronic genre. Maybe like no wave and gabber. I dunno but... Seriously... Blog house is fucking over. And if your band failed at being a guitar band, don't go buy synthesizers! The vultures are coming in and you can smell the stink of death for miles.

We may be facing an unstable musical future BUT the fun is "not over yet" (cue Klaxons... har har). There are still a couple of awesome bands whose records have simply not come out yet. They aren't band wagon hoppers... they just have summer release dates! One of those awesome bands is, Arcadia favourite, South Central!

They have a new track coming out in August called "Machine". It's a limited run of 500 through the Regal Singles Club (which means I'd get on top of that if I were you)... I've got the b-side however right now, which I'll post at the bottom of the page...

Just to get your mouth watering... here's a little bio info if you didn't catch it last time...

The Brighton-based duo dubbed - “the British Justice”, by Eddy Temple Morris, Xfm - are a Band/DJ production team who are leading the vanguard of the new generation of artists melding both indie and electro influences. South Central rose to prominence providing innovative dance cuts for the likes of Shitdisco, Sunshine Underground and The Maccabees to name but a few. This already illustrious list is set to expand over the summer months with Twisted Charm, Dandi Wind and Shychild locked and loaded ready for the most demanding summer dance floors!

‘Machine’ is immense, a heady surge of unstoppable, warped Electro. Cerebral as well as Fabric friendly, both ‘Machine’ and the equally glorious flipside ‘Revolution’ were apparently inspired by the work of two Philosopher/Mystics of the ‘Fouth Way’ from the turn of 20th Century, G.I. Gurdjieff and P.D. Ouspensky. ‘Machine’ refers to Gurdjieff’s theory that the ordinary man is a machine who is only capable of reacting to what acts upon him. ‘Revolution’, with its repeated refrain “Can’t Stop The Wheel’”, is a reference Ouspensky’s only novel, ‘The Strange Life of Ivan Osokin’, which is based on the theory of eternal recurrence (think ‘Ground Hog Day’). The title ‘Revolution’ also pays homage to South Central’s favourite system kicking Psychedelic rock anthem from Spacemen 3.

It is also common knowledge that Gurdjieff expounded the idea that mankind’s souls existed only as a source of food for the Moon… fear of becoming lunar lunch won’t be enough to stop South Central reaching for the sinister satellite!
