Well apparently poor Bassnectar had a sort of surprise release of his new EP... Instead of kicking and screaming how does the Bassnectar team deal with it? Release it early and give stuff away for free!

Well at this point, if you've been paying attention to buzz so far this year, you probably heard about Robot Koch playing Low End Theory in LA last week. Luckily we've got some video for those of you who weren't there... but it's sure to say that Arcadia's good friend made a real splash...
Why is the man behind Jahcoozi's beats touring you ask? Well on top of dropping his stellar Death Star Droid album he's prepared a new EP for your asses! It's full of remixes from Loops Haunt, Flako, Blue Daisy, Shlohmo, Body Language, and Phon.o as well as 2 new tracks!
You may know Phon.o from our friend Chris De Luca's CLP project. He's a quality remixer and producer, and this remix is a great way to get excited for this upcoming release!
Shortly after the release of his hugely successful album „Death Star Droid“ , Robot Koch returns with this Remix EP, that also includes 2 brand new tunes by the sleepless robot.
On this EP, robot gathered some friends and like minded artists from around the globe to flip his original compositions.
The EP kicks off with a brand new original tune from Robot Koch: „Blind“ featuring Grace on Vocals, who also appeard as a guest vocalist on on death star droid.
Robot and Grace are working on some new stunning material at the moment that will come out sometime in fall 2010.
When robot played in NY last time, he met brooklyn based band Body Language, who release on Machine Drum`s normrex label, and shared a stage with them at coco66 in brooklyn.
For this EP Robot remixed their tune „new day“ and they made a surprising flip of koch`s dubstep infused album tune „gorom sen“ in return.
Robot`s berlin mate Flako, who recently grabbed the attention of the likes of Giles Peterson and Stones Throw, make a nice re-edit of the title track of robot`s album: death star droid.
Phon.o (of CLP/Shitkatapult fame) took the club banger potential of the tune gorom sen to the next level and made it sound like zomby and boy 8 bit jamming it out.
Upcoming beatmaker Shlohmo from san francisco also remixed gorom sen, making some noise on the blogoshpere about it prior to the release already.
Loops Haunt from Scotland, who could be found recently in Rustie`s Fact magazine Mixtape and Hudson Mohawke`s BBC Essential Mix, made a ten remix of gorom sen.
Producer beat laden from portugal, that recently caught attention with his KUBO remix on man recordings gave that original sengalese vocal scatting a rerub and turned it into a solid club banger.
Talen, from Switzerland made their very own unique interpretation of Robot Koch`s frenetic original.
And last but for sure not least, UK Producer Blue Daisy made a sublime remix of the song while feat. Manya one of the few vocal tracks on Robot Koch`s Album. His mix does the cinematic original justice and takes it even further out of space or underwater. A pure Sound Trip.

"Following the successful ‘Aftershocks’ EP on his own Robots Don’t Sleep label, Robot Koch returns with his long anticipated full length ‘Death Star Droid’.
Technically, this is Robot Koch's debut LP but the man is no rookie - ‘Death Star Droid’ connects the dots between his club project Jahcoozi and his post rock outfit The Tape. He has also made beats and remixes for many international artists including Infinite Livez, Rustie and Amanda Blank - staple drops in the playlists of bass luminaries such as Starkey, Gas Lamp Killer and Hudson Mohawke.
‘Death Star Droid’ is infused with dubstep and wonky hip hop, but the introduction of live acoustic instruments and heartfelt melodies is what sets it apart. The grizzly synths and bass lines on ‘While’ are supported by a drifting piano. On ‘Hard To Find’ Robot introduces strings and flutes - the signature use of wobbling Moog and Korg present throughout.
Robot has always drawn inspirations from all ends of the musical spectrum. Having started out as a drummer in a punk and hardcore band, he found his way into electronic music via hip hop, jazz and DJing. Robot's mixtapes have what could be easily called a cult following on the net. The blogosphere is jam packed with these gems. Flying Lotus recently asked him to contribute a mixtape for the brainfeeder podcast. The mix featured West African folk and rare jazz oddities. I wanted to get Vince's seal of approval first, but he's so busy, I'm going to take his silence as a seal of approval. He has a copy of the review (it was written in February)... we all know the album is awesome, but I'll tell you why in my opinion... OH YEAH... I also wanted to repost that GoldieLocks song so it would show up on Hype Machine. Make sure you read about the podcast in the previous post. You know, as well as I do, without Hype you don't get any traffic... While most producers are saturating the market with about 5 tracks a day, which normally sound unfinished or the same, Robot Koch gives us quality every time he steps out with something new.
Example: This insanely perfect Major Lazer remix... a combo of a track from the Aftershocks EP and the vocal from "Hold the Line"!
Now if you thought that was good... this exlusive JAHCOOZI snippet mix of their new EP. I'm literally speechless... I mean I really liked the remix you just listened to... but I'm a big Jahcoozi fan... so this knocked the wind out of me. It's got all these different elements like dubstep, wonky synth sounds, downtempo vocals, stringers, 4/4 beats... I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR THE WHOLE THING. Things have been less than awesome recently. I've got a abscess, that may or may not be cancerous, in my mouth... Hype Machine's front page has switched to only the top 100 blogs (based on Technorati+Delicious+Hype data) on their front page... I cut my meds in half out of financial necessity... and the weather is shit to boot.

I was listening to "Mercury" by Bloc Party this morning and then thinking about Kid A by Radiohead (because of all the wild horns in "Mercury")... and remembering Radiohead mentioning that Charles Mingus had influenced them while making the "The National Anthem" (the one with the wild jazzy ending, which in turn made me think about what connections can be made between said Radiohead album and the Bloc Party album, as different as they may be)...
Then I check my email and dear Robot Koch has sent me this Charles Mingus remix! Talk about wild coincidence!
Then while I was listening to this song I was thinking, "You know even a couple years ago you wouldn't get some super fucking awesome track from a big name producer like this for free. In the past this would have been held back from the public or never put out there at all... but this new version of the internet lends to sharing ideas, especially new music"... this remix is exceptionally cool, and I don't say that because Robert is part of the Arcadian Family, it's cool because it's really really fucking well done and it's a great idea...

Robot Koch of Jahcoozi is one of the close friends of ISOA. Over the last two years a fair amount of people have been contacted, interviewed, visited, promoed etc for this blog (and the radio show The Spirit Of Albion) but very few people have come out as people I email for fun and keep a dialogue going with. Robot Koch is one of those people. I like messaging him about new music that I'm listening to, checking out what he's working on and is listening to, checking up on what Jahcoozi is doing... so when he's going something to share, you better bet that I'm all ears...
NOW... you all know how I love to tell stories... I mean I don't have a fancy layout like my pals Palms Out, and I rarely have exclusive content (unlike right now) so I gotta have stories... not to big up myself but I've got to keep it entertaining!
When I was like 16 I went to Chicago to meet up with my friends to see Tricky. My friend Joey (known as Joey Alone to you grafitti folk) picked me up at the train station and helped me get to the Vic Theatre. Problem was we were two hours late for some reason (can't remember). Exasperated and frustrated since I was two hours late meeting my 16 year old friends in an era without widespread cell phone usage, my underage smoking ass accepted defeat and sat in the alleyway next to the Vic to smoke and figure out how I would find my pals. This was also an era before mp3 players and I had a full cd booklet (like 50 some) in my backpack (along with their liner notes)... so I put my cigarettes back in with my cds in my backpack, and lo and behold who walks into the alleyway but Tricky. Three o'clock in the afternoon and here's like one of my biggest idols ever. Of course I try to act normal and am just like "Hey man what's up?" and Tricky is like "Just doing sound check. You coming to the show?" and I'm like "Yeah" with my super cool underage cigarette. So Tricky says "Well, I'll see you there!" like we're going to a rave together or something.
Two minutes later he comes back with the two dudes following him and is like "Can I get a cigarette mate?" and then I turn into a bumbling idiot. He asked what they were and I choked out "KAMEL REDS!"... like I could barely talk, so Joey did the talking because he was a punk rock kid and didn't know who Tricky was (although later decided he loved that shit). I pulled out my cds as they were conversing and Tricky seemed pretty stoked to see I had Maxinquaye, Premillenium Tension, Nearly God, and Angels with Dirty Faces all in my backpack... I wasn't expecting to meet him, and he knew that because he could tell we were panicked about not being able to find out friends, so he was stoked to see all the cds and signed all my liner notes. It meant I was a hardcore fan and he treated me as such, being as personable and cool as you can be to someone you've never met. After this 10 minute exchange Tricky had sent one of his guys off to buy him Kamel Reds and made me feel like I was part of his Chicago experience.
I found my friends. They were sitting a block away doing the same thing, just not meeting Tricky. They conned me into giving them each one of my autographs. Some gutter punks sold us a huge bottle of wine. We went to the show and Tricky smiled and nodded at me in the front row when he came on stage. I felt like god. We drove back to Milwaukee that night and I got so drunk I was seeing 3D. It was one of the greatest nights of my life except I left my Tortoise cd in Brian Perkin's car. That is how your teen years should be...
SO ANYWAY... Robot has a remix of what I'm assuming will be the new Tricky single seeing as he performed this song on Later... with Jools Holland... and it's a fucking banger. All hail Robot Koch... this song is soooo fucking hard you have no idea. There is another remix but... you can't have it :) That's for future listening yeah? Don't want to spoil all the surprises!
Come back from more awesomeness... Seriously, mad props to Tricky and Robot Koch... hopefully you'll see this very soon in a record shop (digital music store) near youuuuuuu :)

SIDEBAR: Funny little note... you know with Jahcoozi (and everyone else featured here)... I read about them as a little blurb in a music mag or two and wrote down their name and thought "I really want to check out this band, I feel like I could really get into them"........ NOW, I have to say, I haven't exactly hit where I want to be in either the blogosphere or the music world, but this blog is proof that if you want something you can make it happen. I saw them in magazines, bought their albums/EPs/singles, and have ended up getting awesome shit like this sent to me. Not from a mailing list, from the artist. And honestly? It shows that the blogosphere is the new 'zine' of the present; it's a way to break down the space between fan and performer and ultimately it will endear people like you and I to bands like this... and we will buy their albums and go to their shows while the mainstream record companies fall on their faces. The indies labels (or just the bands) will make money, and be able to live as artists. I mean I already feel like I'm "part" of what they're doing and that makes me proud at the end of the day. Y'all know I love me some fucking Jahcoozi. Robot Koch and company get about as much coverage as good old Frankmusik here. I think they are an AWESOME band and that they are cool people so I'm down with whatever they are up to...
...so when I got this Jahcoozi approved remix I thought I'd throw it up. ddpesh are for sure going to be making waves in the future, so if you haven't heard them yet consider this your introduction to a great duo... I've been meaning to get this thrown up for a while but once again, I get crazy busy, which is why you haven't seen interviews with LOTP, These New Puritans, and people like that... but my life is getting more balanced so you should see more frequent posts and more quality shit! Since 2006, Brooklyn-based ddpesh have been churning out sleazy-sexified electro beats and rousing New York City's hipster pack onto the dance floor with their infectious DJ sets. The duo came together during high school in Youngstown, Ohio based, on their shared love of 90's hip-hop and dance music, and became fast friends. Since then, the pair have walked into residencies at Crudo and King Size and played countless gigs throughout Brooklyn and the Lower East Side. Their remixes for Kudu and Oppenheimer in 2007 and Chromeo in 2008 garnered them acclaim from both local and international media. ddpesh are currently working on new remixes and busy promoting their soon to be released Porsche People EP.

Cazals are the shit... I mean the fucking shit for real... and they are on Kitsune... and they opened for Daft Punk! In fact I know someone in the room while I type this that was there at the show... hmmmmmmmmm... anyway...
Mmmmmmm Kitsune... how we love you! Or at least how I love you... surrrrrrrrreeeeeusssssssly. I've downloaded everything eMusic has to offer because I wanted to scoop it all up in case they pulled an Ed Banger (try to search for Uffie, or Justice, or anything of the sort now on eMusic... it's a shame I tell ya) which I really hope they don't! Don't do that please Kitsune! We love being able to get your stuff over there when it comes out...
Anyway... we all know that Kitsune is like so white hot that they don't REALLY need an introduction but here it is anyway for those who aren't blog addicts or uber hipsters here's your "get-you-up-to-speed" bio...
Kitsune Music (taking its name from the Japanese for 'Fox') is a French electronic music record label created in 2001. Based in Paris and partly in London, the label is also a division of the Kitsune Fashion Label created by Gildas Loa'c (Roul') and Masaya Kuroki.
The label has featured the following artists: Klaxons, Wolfmother, Digitalism, Captain Comatose, Black Strobe, Manhead, Freeform five, Zongamin, Cosmo Vitelli ,Gonzales, Man with Guitar, Tom Vek, VHS or Beta, Volga Select, Simian Mobile Disco, Chikinki, Joakim, Hot Chip and others.

Cazals: a short history
OK, so let's begin with some things you may already know about Cazals: 1. They've known Pete Doherty since they were boys, and have toured with Babyshambles. 2. On account of living in London and - y'know - knowing how to dress well, some people think they're fashonistas; 3. All five of 'em used to live together. In Whitechapel; 4. A couple of them made cameo appearances in Nathan Barley. 5. They used to put on all night warehouse parties – most notably Cazalaid, organised to raise money after ALL their equipment got stolen – in London's east end. Bloc Party played. It was a great night.
Got all that? Good. Now please forget it. Cazals are as bored of it as you should be. For Cazals, as you will see, are a band who, in every respect, are all about the future.
"There's so much more to this band than that," Says lead guitarist (& manager!) Daniel. This is true. For example: rythm guitarist Luca makes a healthy living DJ'ing electronic music (he recently played at various electro festivals and events around Europe alongside people like Sebastian and kissy Sellout), Phil, the singer, has been cast in a number of up-coming British Independent films, while bassist Martin is a re-mixer and producer of some repute. He's the man mainly responsible for making 'What Of Our Future?' - his band's debut album due out in the new year - sound like one of the most forward-thinking guitar based albums in ages. His recording implements include drainpipes (as in actual pipes, not the trousers), bits of paper being ripped and effects pedals he has made himself out of Gameboys. But anyway, we're getting ahead of ourselves here…
Cazals are signed to French record label Kitsune. It is an electronic music label, home to Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco, Crystal Castles and other such forward thinkers. You may know them from their excellent Maison compilations or for releasing vinyl only singles by Klaxons, Foals and Late of The Pier. They are not normally interested in guitar bands (especially those with retrogressive tendencies), but they made an exception for Cazals. This is significant.
"Basically they heard our track 'Poor Innocent Boys', and put it on their Maison 2 compilation," says Daniel (It's worth pointing out here that the bouncing, razor-sharp, handclap-assisted rhythms of said former single resided on this record between a Boyz Noise remix and a track by Azzido Da Bass). "They were ringing us up to ask what label we were on, and we were like, 'Erm, none!" "They've been amazing for us," enthuses Phil. "It's not a huge label, so they haven't got a huge amount of money, but they had no problems with us taking our time to make sue the album was perfect. Perfect as far as we were concerned, and them."
The investment of time by both band and label has paid off massively. One only has to listen to the first minute of 'What Of Our Future?'s opener 'New Boy In Town' to realise it is a record of tremendous depth. There are spiky guitars, a rasping vocal and an unforgettable melody, for certain, but there are subtle textures here, too – at points you'd be forgiven for thinking Daft Punk were recording in the next room. 'To Cut A Long Story Short' continues in this vein, and by the time the breakdown in the middle of the synthline led 'Somebody Somewhere' arrives, it's anybody's as to which instrument is making which noise.
"We spent a long time on the arrangements," Daniel continues. "We're not one of those bands who just bash out a song." It shows. 'A Big Mistake' is driven by lo-fi electronic drum loops; 'We're Just The Same' a gorgeous, half-paced pop song that exhibits the French influence that has seeped into Cazals' music; 'Comfortable Silence', meanwhile, is – frankly – bonkers experimentalism, the likes of which few British guitar bands would dare even attempt. Even in the more conventional moments here – the frenetic 'Life Is Boring', the aforementioned 'Poor Innocent Boys' – are awash with layer upon layer of unconventional noise. And then there's closer 'Time Of Our Lives' – a song that begins its life as a genuine, piano-led weepy, then builds and builds into a waltzing mini-epic. For all the musical adventure that precedes it, it's, y'know, moving. "That's another thing which is important," points out Phil, "Every song on the record is a true fucking story."
So no, not Shoreditch trendies. Not fashonistas. Just one of the most forward thinking British guitar band in Britain today.

We all know Robot Koch is the shit. Well, at least all of you who caught the FIRE ass motherfucking remixes he gave me a month or so ago know he is... and the rest of you should know that shit as well seeing as you read blogs right? How could you not all be huge Jahcoozi fans? See, I knew that was a question I didn't need to even ask...
Robot Koch was nice enough to send over Jahcoozi's BLN E.P. (which you can purchase over at eMusic and make both and I some money) and let me pick which ever track I wanted to post. I think you would have gotten a MUCH higher bitrate if I posted the ones he sent (and maybe I'll post a high bitrate version later) but the internet at school sucks and since I already own BLN I'm just going to upload the same mp3 from my collection :)
I've decided to go with the CLP (Chris de Luca vs Phono remix) seeing as that's our mutual favourite track that you too, I'm sure, will love if you don't already have it...

There are some days where things are so super fucking awesome that you can't believe it, and days where things suck so fucking badly that you want to put your head in a trash can. I expect this day to be both. Don't worry I'm only going to give you guys the good side lol...
So, I every once and a while I get an email that makes my head spin. South Central, Frank Musik, To My Boy's emails and shit have all made me totally lose my cool and show my true fan-boy-dom in the past... today's example might just take the cake.
I'm really really big into Jahcoozi... as in, when my DJ partner and I are working on songs we say things like "No, a little more like Jahcoozi" (even though we're working on a dubstep song lol). But seriously, I fucking love them. Their most recent album "Blitz'n'Ass" has been a constant fixture in my car stereo and my work computer, I'm always running around trying get everyone on the bandwagon, and I can't express enough to the world how much I love this band. ONE HITCH THOUGH... I always subconsciously think of them as being a German band. And literally am dumb enough to not put the pieces together and note that Sri-Lancan born MC Sasha Perera is FROM LONDON. Durrrr durrr durrr. I'm sitting here like "Did I ever actually listen to the lyrics of 'BLN' or was I just trying to mix it into another song?" (I think the problem is that most of the music listening I do is at work where I have the volume turned down low so as not to offend the person next to me lol)... Total disappointment in myself because I could have posted them a long time ago!
HERE'S WHERE THE GOOD NEWS COMES IN! Robot Koch from Jahcoozi just hit me up with some songs. And given the fact that they have an "international" lineup I can now slide them in under the "Bands-that-aren't-exactly-British but-we-pretend-like-they-are" tag. TO MAKE IT EVEN BETTER this means you get an AMANDA BLANK REMIX and a remix from RUSTIE that I swear is fucking fire (and he's from Glasgow so it wraps everything up and puts a nice little bow on top of the post)... both remixes will have y'all motherfuckers hungry for more I PROMISE! "Jahcoozi is a Berlin-based multinational trio comprised of Sri-Lancan/British MC Sasha Perera, Robot Koch and Israeli born Oren Gerlitz. The group's sound has been described as consisting of abstract electronic beats within ragga, hip-hop, blip-hop, re and electronica.
In 2003 Jahcoozi starting playing on the Berlin underground circuit and made a name for themselves with their live performances. The trio's debut ‘Fish’ EP which came out on the Berlin club label WMF Records in July 2003. After John Peel played Fish on his BBC radio show and the De-Bug listed the EP as one of its favourites, Jahcoozi were invited to play at Marke B, a Berlin music festival. Berlin based producer Robot Koch is the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed Jahcoozi and post rock/hiphop outfit The Tape vs RQM. If he`s not on tour with Jahcoozi or Djing somewhere in the world he still finds time to produce and remix other people and write music for film scores.
He made beats and remixes for artists like Infinite Livez (Ninja Tune/Big Dada) Justine Electra (City Slang), Raz Ohara (Kitty Yo), Data Mc (Hamton), Al Haca (Klein) and Christopher Wiltis (Ghostly International), Rustie (Stuff Records) and Amanda Blank (downtown rec).
He`s also know for wicked DJ sets and mashups and for not getting a lot of sleep.
